We’ve seen our company name on a ton of team jerseys over the years. It’s a common advertising tactic for many companies: advertise and support youth soccer means a win for everyone.
For us, it never felt good enough to write the cheque and be done. We wanted to engage and make our brand come alive to the kids that were representing our company name.
We also knew that if we could have some impact on the kids, it would get back to the parents, aunts, uncles and friends…who may need our services one day 😉
We decided that on opening day, when the jerseys were given out, we would be there for a quick connect and hand out a personal letter for each player. The letter talked about how team work on the soccer field was no different than team work on the job site- it matters. How showing up to all the practices because they mattered was the same as our staff showing up for work. Along with the letter, we handed out some free stuff that got their attention and boom!
It worked.
Parents and coaches all talked about our company…not because we said anything significant but because we showed up in person and took some time with the kids.
It set us apart from all the other companies that wrote a cheque and were done.
Taking time to encourage people has potential for great impact. Time is money…and most of us are short on time.
If you need some creative thinking around what small ways you can be set apart, drop me a line. I’d love to help.
